ABOUT THE CITY OF WEST COVINA
West Covina was incorporated in 1923 to prevent a sewage farm from being established there by the City of Covina. At the time, the ultimate purpose of the 507 residents was to prevent the establishment of the sewage facility, not to build a city.
Over the years, the city flourished with orange and walnut groves. In 1930, the population was 769, but by the year 1990, the population had grown to 96,242. In the mid-1900s, the city began to build structures such as the City Hall and Police Facility and a three-level parking structure in the Civic Center complex. Later, the West Covina Fashion Plaza was added with three major department stores and 150 smaller stores, all combined into an air-conditioned indoor mall. Today, it is known as "The Plaza at West Covina."
The City of West Covina is bordered by the communities of Baldwin Park, Covina, Diamond Bar, El Monte, La Puente, Vincent, and Walnut. As of the 2010 census, the population has grown to 106,098.
